Planning Your Black-Owned Galentine’s Day
Happy New Year and Black History Month!
I know we’re over a month into the New Year, but I’ll be wishing you a prosperous and joy-filled 2021, throughout the year because that’s the kind of energy I’m bringing into this revolution around the sun. I’m also wishing you a Happy New Year in February because I took a break for December and January so we haven’t talked in a while, lol.
This year Mayaesthetic is going to look a bit different and I’m extremely excited about it. Some things you can lookout for are: monthly themes (which I’ll call aesthetics), post recordings, and the Aesthetics Page! The monthly aesthetics are essentially a theme that the month’s blog posts will follow. This month’s aesthetic is Black Love, both a nod to Black History Month and the second holiday of the year: Valentine’s Day. I’ll be blogging about black things, self love things, and black love things. Post recordings, on the other hand, are like bite-sized audiobooks that you can play to listen to the week’s post instead of reading it. Lastly, the Aesthetics Page will have downloadable wallpapers for your phone and desktop based on the month’s aesthetic. Ok ok, enough admin for today, what I’m really dying to talk about with y’all is how to plan a Black-Owned Galentine’s (or Valentine’s Day).
If you know me you know that I’m a girl’s girl and proud! There is no better feeling than having a girl gang that supports you, uplifts you, calls you out, and makes you laugh until you pee (sorry mom). Pre-pandemic, I loved planning Galentine’s Day gatherings with my LA girls but this year we have to go virtual. Here are a couple Black-Owned ways that you and your besties can celebrate the Girl Gang day of the year, whether you’re in person or a Zoom call away.
For your game night…
Try one of these Black-Owned games! The way these games are designed, only one person needs to have the cards and they can share what’s on them with the group.
One Gotta Go
For your wine night…
Pick up one (or a few) of these Black-Owned wines!
The Guilty Grape Cabernet Sauvignon
(Side note: I might have to grab a few of these wine glasses because check out how beautiful they are!)
For your spa day…
This year, Galentine’s Day falls on a Saturday, and what better way to celebrate then with a Self-Care Saturday? Relive the feeling of attending your favorite spa with your girls, by setting the mood with some of these Black-Owned self-care must-haves!
Hey Big Head Candle from Forvr
Kyoto Cherry Rose Sencha Tea from Brooklyn Tea
Soap Distillery Rose Body Scrub
Press on nails - Slayed by Amya
Pedicure nail polish - Mischo Beauty
For your book club…
There’s still time to order or download or rent one of your favorite books so that you and your gal pals can discuss on Galentine’s Day. If you’re looking for reading suggestions, check out one of these books by Black women authors:
I Almost Forgot About You: Terry McMillan
Queenie: Candice Carty-Williams
Well Read Black Girl: Glory Edim
We’re Going to Need More Wine: Gabrielle Union
Party of Two: Jasmine Guillory
For your cooking class…
Lastly, you can try a cooking class! If you and your girls are the cheffing kind, consider doing a virtual cooking class. You can achieve this by:
Following along with a YouTube video….
Signing up for a virtual cooking class with a pro….
Or, gathering the necessary supplies and trying one of these recipes together:
While these activities are directly aimed at the Galentine’s Day observers, they’re also perfect for Valentine’s Day activities as well! Even if you’re not able to corral the gals for a celebration, you can also try some of these activities on your own! Remember that every day is a good day to love yourself!
Thanks for reading, or listening, and don’t forget to subscribe at the bottom of the page so you can get updates delivered to your inbox every Monday!
Also, if you try any of these please hit me up in the comments and let me know if you enjoyed them!
Remember, loving yourself out loud is mayaesthetic.
Yours Truly.
